The Smyths?
Description: Our catalogue tells us that this lovely family group was commissioned by Mrs. Smyth, 44 Poleberry, Waterford, which should help you with your deliberations. I always look forward to reading the comments on a photo like this one. It is fantastic that you can discover so much information about the people in the photos we feature here on Flickr, it really does bring them alive. +++ UPDATE +++ Well, this family photograph led to a lively chase up and down Poleberry in Waterford, trying to match likely families, and likely dogs in online dog license records. But the main problem is the “unusual” house numbering of Poleberry. Our Bernard Healy is not usually given to cast asparagus at anyone, but even he was driven to this extreme: “I think we have to conclude that the census enumerator was drunk, or the houses were re-numbered at some stage”. All fall down...
Description: There is something winterish and depressing about todays image from Arthur Henri. Dull and misty atmosphere and a crop that looks as though it has been burned by the frost and is now wilted would not cheer one up? They're Peelers not Sojers
Description: Mr. John A. Costello looks decidedly discombobulated as he is escorted by Church and State to some event in Donegal. The title suggests that he has a guard of honour of soldiers, but those are actually some of An Garda Síochána's finest. Their uniform, with the closed collars, should be some guide to the latest date this could have been taken? Where, why and what? WEST LAKE HANGCHOW SETTLEMENT divided up by causeways, and here the character of theChinese is shown in combining utility and beauty. These causeways are covered with turf, which form afine galloping ground, and a narrow paved walk forpedestrians. Many willow trees give shade and add tothe sylvan beauty, and every here and there one comesto a quaint high-backed bridge with the ruins of an oldgateway on the top. The ponies go up and down the steps of these bridgesas to the manner born ; but my friend, to whom riding wasa new experience, had grave doubts as to whether he wouldreach the other side or be thrown into the lake. Dottedabout are islands, one group in particular, joined togetherby zigzag stone bridges, with pavilions, tea-houses, andtemples which are at once memorial to some dead notable, and a pleasant resort to-day. The lake stretches far along, and the hills rise higheron either side, and now and then a ruined pagoda is seen, relics of Note About Images Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original work.

It passes through Mongolia and North China on migration and wintersin South China, Assam, Burma, and North-east India. Like some other Siberianbirds which winter in South-east Asia, a few examples appear more or lessregularly to take the wrong turning at Yeniseisk, and, instead of accompanyingthe main body of the migratory species, which follow the course of the Angorathrough Lake Baikal into the valley of the Amoor, join the smaller stream ofmigration, which flows westwards into Persia and Europe.
