Our regular roving railway reporter
Flying Snail asked for some help, and I was happy to oblige. He's nearing the end of his college work (a photographic project on the former railways in Co. Meath) and asked to see photos of Christy Mahon, the former signalman at Kilmessan Station.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected] It's a lovely spot. I used to do wedding photography and I loved the grounds. The signal cabin is the bridal suite.

The hotel is a great place to visit. If you can go midweek it is relatively inexpensive. The grounds are lovely with a lot of the railway buildings converted into rooms and funtion areas. The signal box is converted into the honeymoon suite.

The name Christy Mahon has great meaning here on the Aran islands after the main character in Syng's play ,The playboy of the western world. I'm sure this Christy got many "playboy" comments over the years. Lovely photos.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland Regarding the conversion of the Signal Box into a Honeymoon Suite, I am pleasantly surprised at the lack of smut and innuendo from the usual suspects.
