This restful spot is Hazelwood, near Sligo Town, inspiration for
The Song of Wandering Aengus by W.B. Yeats:
"I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread."

I love this one, such a tranquil scene and so very atmospheric. The two waiting to go out fishing, the long well constructed rowing boats their rowlocks standing out clearly and refelectd in the still water, the little steam pinnace all covered up for the weather and the clarity of the whole thing? This is outstanding! I was wondering if the shade above the stack on the steam boat was early smoke but it is in fact nicely situated weed in the background! Another beauty NLI, so very well chosen to begin our day with!

Someone as prominent as Yeats is deserving of an update to his inspiration, so I give you: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/6644522359/in/photostream which I hope meets with your approval.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected] Absolutely! And have we inherited a migrant from the Library of Congress as well (the chap off in the distance)?

Yes, the migrant, and to your credit that you have recognized such, since no other has. Here is the original that you are no doubt familiar: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/6646505731/in/photostream

A heavily Irish neighborhood in Pittsburgh where my grandfather grew up was/is called Hazelwood. I wonder if this was the inspiration?

Looks like quite an unusual boat second from front there, staggered oarlocks on her. Have never seen that before ... esp considering the one in the immediate foreground is very similar but hasn't got it's oarlocks staggered?
