The Sydney Glaciarium was the third indoor ice-skating facility built in Australia and the first in New South Wales. It opened in George Street Ultimo in July in 1907, on the site of a nineteenth century Cyclorama. Located near the railway station it was a popular sporting and entertainment venue for nearly 50 years.

nla.gov.au/nla.obj-468187221/view - this pic appeared in Pix on 6th September, 1952, on p. 28. It was one of a number of photos taken during a match between St. George Ex-Imperials and West Tigers that appeared in a pictorial. This chap is evidently St George player-coach Claude Hamel, a visiting French-Canadian. 'Armored like a Gladiator of the Roman era, Hamel adjusts elbow guards before donning sweater' - Pix's caption. trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/248721622 - the Daily Telegraph, 10th May, 1952...brief item on Hamel.
