1936 was a very eventful year. The Berlin Olympics saw Nazi Germany display its growing might and brutality; Jesse Owens burst the bubble of the Master Race by an incredible display of speed and skill; the Spanish Civil War broke out; and Mrs. Somers daughter got hitched. For that brief period, the world looked on!!!

22 September 1936 was a Tuesday ... A Somers Day, but not quite a summer's day. I wonder if that is Mrs Somers on the right looking well spotted ?

Eleanor Patricia Summers marrying Patrick Cronin, 22 September 1936 Witnesses Daniel Cronin and Delia Somers. St. Peter & Paul's RC Church, Clonmel. He is a Contractor, and she is a Music Teacher. His father Philip also a contractor, her father John a teacher.

I only see one birth of someone called Eleanor Somers spelled that way, and her middle name is also Patricia and father John, so I think this is the record of her birth in 1913 in Dundalk. Father John Francis is a clerk at that time, and mother is Mary née McArdle. So Eleanor is 23 on her wedding day.

Here is a possible Patrick Cronin. He is from Carrick-on-Suir as in the marriage record, father is also Philip and a Labourer. If so, he was born in 1903 and is 10 years Eleanor's senior.
Niall McAuley
That Patrick does not seem to have a brother Daniel, but here is a Daniel Cronin from the same townland of Clasnasmuth, father Denis a Labourer - cousins perhaps?

I do not know who witness Delia Somers is yet.

For the birth of Kathleen Somers in 1911, father John is recorded as a National School Teacher. In the 1911 census (one day after Kathleen's birth!) he is a clerk to the council. The eldest in census is Mary Somers, 1. For the birth of Mary in 1910, they were in Sandymount, Dublin, but she is Mary Bridget Joseph Somers, still no Delia.

The fellow on the right was probably a very naughty boy. His mother pulled his ear on a frequent basis.

Here are a Phil and Mary Cronin in Clasnamut with sons Daniel and Patrick, Patrick born 1903. I think this is them.

Red and white polke dot frocks were popular in the 1930s ...

You'd have to think Mrs. Somers is in the picture (she ordered it!), so that must be her at right, and the woman beside her is the spit of her, so I'm guessing that is Mary Bridget/Delia.
