Apparently not a "live" photo but rather a photo of a painting from Mr. French for today. A really fine scene of the beach at Bundoran in Co. Donegal with lots of activity and fine detail.

Something odd going on here; the Great Northern Railway Hotel has five gables, whereas a similar photo has only four - L_IMP_3291 - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000327492 See comments from a year ago - [https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/51900893116/]

It looks to me to be a photo of a painting of a photo, I wonder if the original plate is catalogued.

No, looking at megazoom, I can see that this is "photoshopped" directly onto the plate - there are people on the far shore showing movement blur.

There are five gables on the hotel - there are a lot of other shots showing only four. I wonder if this was done from plans before the hotel was even built?

The Dictionary of Irish Architects has two entries for the hotel, in 1894 and then in 1895: Tenders invited for adds., including new wing and bathroom block, Dec 1895. For Irish Highlands Hotel Co.

Looking at this modern shot, i don't think that fifth gable was ever built: Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran

And another similar view, like the Imperial one linked above, but with people happily beachcombing - L_CAB_06885 - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000333589 Ed. and another! - L_CAB_06884 - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000333588

Mr French / Lawrence really liked this view! Or he was on a huge commission from the GNR. catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000331909 (with a Dog) catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000333586 catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000321951 catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000321944 Edit - and a Royal plate version of the artwork - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000321194 Phew!

Looking at the shots [https://www.flickr.com/photos/beachcomberaustralia] lists above, the hotel originally had 3 gables in L_IMP_3198. There we see a window set back under an arch either side of a flat roofed projecting room on the middle gable. In L_CAB_06885 we see that a fourth gable has been added to our left. But in todays shot, we see two gables and another flat roofed projecting room are added to our right of the original three gables, and the newer leftmost gable is missing. So I think this plate originally featured the 3 gable 1894 hotel, and someone at lawrence's studio photoshopped in a proposed extension which was never built.
