Biographical History: William Tighe (1882-1951) was born to William 'Billy' Tighe and Louisa Blackman, at Teridgerie, NSW. When he volunteered in January 1918 he was married with five children, his wife Ida Beatrice Conroy (1889-1941), resided in Goondiwindi. After training at Enoggera he was assigned to the 4th Reinforcements Queensland, and left Australia aboard HMAT 'Orontes' in June 1918, bound for England. Not long after arriving in Liverpool, William was taken ill with influenza and admitted to hospital at Hurdcott; he also suffered from chronic rheumatism and 'neurosis'. When the medical authorities reviewed his case it was decided that he should return home to Australia in December 1918 and be discharged medically unfit.
