A place that has been a source of controversy on a number of occasion in recent times and all for different reasons. The Military Barracks in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath in it's original glory. The latest recruits stand awaiting near the square while a lady from the Married Quarters looks on. One young volunteer decided to come right up to the photographer and check out what he was doing there!

We have not seen many soccer pitches on this stream from memory this is only the second one. Soccer was always associated with the garrison towns.

The history of soccer pitch markings would suggest the photograph was taken post 1902 as that was when the present day pitch markings were introduced. Prior to 1902 there was an 18yd dotted line going the full width of the pitch and not the 18yd box as seen above.
