Albert R. Sampson testifying at his trial, April 19, 1960. Sampson, a Shaw student, protested being denied service at the lunch counter at McClellan's in Raleigh, and was arrested for trespass on March 21. When asked at trial why he refused to leave, he said he thought he was a guest since he'd been allowed to purchase merchandise there.
