Our catalogue tells us that that this is unidentified, but I think they missed a trick! We see on the face of the photograph that this is in fact Knockmaroon in the County of Dublin. I wonder what that that tower is doing in the background, surely it would feel more at home in Tuscany?

Mr French / Lawrence made full use of his trusty tripod that day - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000324203 (Royal plate) catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000335160 (Cabinet plate) The workmen in bowlers suggests 1890-ish to me.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland I think there have been others; can't remember where ... https://www.flickr.com/photos/quiteadept/'s linked site implies the tower and clock was completed in 1885, so there won't be a stereo pair to complete the plate sizes.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected] I'm thinking we might be close to Mount Sackville?
Niall McAuley
[https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland] Yes, the gates into Mount Sackville are visible on the right hand side of the road. A close-up Streetview of the three visible pillars.

Nearby in the catalogue is L_IMP_2293 which is after October 1899, when the Phoenix Park/North Quays tram was electrified. Also L_IMP_2298 showing the Hill of Howth tram, opened 1900.
National Library of Ireland on The Commons
https://www.flickr.com/photos/gnmcauley I am happy to go with 1899 as the earlier date in the range if you are?

How lovely this is!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland I think the 1899 date is a reasonable guess, but we have seen out-of-sequence stuff before, so just a good guess.
RETRO STU
There's no mistaking the Farmleigh Estate clock/water tower and the Strawberry Beds sloping off to our left.

I think that gate with pillars lead into steps that went down and exited close to the Angler's Rest pub?

Such historical documents are indeed valuable, thank you for sharing them. The photographer did an excellent job considering that old cameras were harder to handle.
