Yet another from the strange collection by the Irish Tourism Association Collection. A Beech tree planted by Henry Brooke, father of Charlotte and marking the site of their house in Corfad. When one reads the name Brooke the ancient province of Ulster comes to mind and although Cavan is south of the border when this tree was planted there was no border! Who were Henry and the, seemingly, more famous daughter Charlotte and does it still stand proudly today?

I can locate the Glebe House where father Henry Brooke was born. He returned to Mullagh years later after living in London, but I don't know where he lived then, when Charlotte was born.

Does the description suggest that the house was no longer standing when the photo was taken?

Rantavan House is a possibility, it is on the 1830s map.

Charlotte Brooke was one of only two of Henry Brookes 22 children to survive into adulthood. Henry Brook was the first editor of the Freeman's Journal in 1763. Tree must be near on 200 years old in the photo.? www.cavanlibrary.ie/cavan-history/cavan-local-studies/cav...
