Abstract: In this color postcard, a wounded French soldier shows a German spiked officer's helmet, a souvenir of the battlefield, to a nurse. She looks away and protests that she does not want to see it, and that the man's family is grieving. The soldier lies in bed, wearing a blue and white striped shirt, his blue coat and red hat draped across his lap. His right arm is in a sling and he has a bandage wrapped around his head. He holds the helmet aloft in his left hand. The nurse has her hands up in protest and her face averted. She wears a long white uniform with apron and veil. There are red crosses on her armband and the front of the apron. There is also a table draped in a white cloth with bottles of medicine, a clear glass, and white bowl with spoon. On a shelf there are more medicine bottles and a thermometer hangs on the wall.
