Document: 1921 census return for suffragette Sophia Duleep Singh (RG 15)

Description:

This is the recently revealed 1921 census return for Sophia Duleep Singh. Princess Sophia Duleep Singh (1876 – 1948) was a Suffragette, famous for campaigning for the right to vote in the United Kingdom. Her father was the Maharajah Duleep Singh and her godmother was Queen Victoria, making her a powerful asset to the Suffrage movement. What does this census return tell us about her life?

The 1921 census was the first census after the 1918 Representation of the People Act, which allowed some women to vote. Find out more about the 1921 census here: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/about/news/1921-census-for-en...
