"The idea for Loon Lake Lodge came in the 1940s when newlyweds Paul and Fran Sowden (Jill's parents) came for a holiday at a local fishing resort owned by John Ahr (Fernleigh Lodge). They had been planning to move to Las Vegas but loved this area; Paul suggested they might build and run a lodge here if Fran's family would partner with them. Fran agreed, since it meant she could have her parents close by."
