The
Senator Possehl moored on the North Quays in Dublin looks a very impressive ship and for some reason caught they eye and the lens of Mr. O'Dea. Generally when O'Dea photographed ships it had some connection to the railways so what was the connection, if any, this time?

According to the Irish Times of March 8th 1960 (a Tuesday), the Senator Possehl was expected to arrive on Friday from Newport News carrying coal. (There is also a reference to Heitons?)

shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2270926 From the info on this site it would be fairly new (4years old)when this photo was taken. Paint work does look fresh and devoid of heavy rust stains.

There's a double-headed eagle on the bow, which is most likely the coat of arms of Lübeck. Emil Possehl (the person) was an important businessman and Senator in the Lübecker Senate. (German wiki).

I presume the Heitons reference was that it the coal was imported by Thomas Heiton, among other things a coal importer (and now trading under Chadwicks.)

South Quay according to original description. He did take a small number of ship photos.

Ireland importing coal from the USA seems odd for 1960. There might be a story here too!
