The Indus was built in 1847 and weighed 1,319 tons. The ship was built as a steamer, but was later converted into a sailing vessel. Between 1870 and 1876 it made six voyages to Moreton Bay, with immigrants on board.
View of the Indus at anchor in the Brisbane River. The first permanent Victoria Bridge, which had a revolving mechanism to allow shipping to pass through, can be seen in the background. The view is looking from River Terrace, South Brisbane, with the city on the right of the bridge.
