Mr. Joseph A. Nolan, Coal Merchant purchased a bone shaker if ever there was one. Back in 1922, this must have been the wonder of the age, and was probably badly needed in Waterford with its many hills. In my neck of the woods, the horse and cart lasted until well into the 1960s. This looks a solid piece of work, and what can we find out about it?

He must be quite young, or else a blow-in. In 1911, the only coal dealing Nolan in Waterford was Michael, aged 57 with no children to pass the business on to. There were various youthful Josephs about the place, though.

Solid tyres, acetylene lamps, looks like the handbrake on the outside of door and canvas roof. No wipers, does this mean that windshield folded down like a jeep? What are those four pipes sticking up in front, were they greasing points? Can anybody ID the truck model?

https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected] Thanks. Got your Brooklands link. Pipes or rods on front maybe so you could move or fit extra acetylene lamps. See also note on photo. Word does not ring any bells with me. Steel rims on the rear are capable of heavy payload. British army lorries of WW1 of this type had a 3ton rating painted on the sides.

Could it be a Benz. Louvers look the same as do the front head lamp brackets but bonnet line is different. www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/50566002696/in/photoli...

Looks like an AEC Y type, though the bonnet seems to have more of a slope on it.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected] Could well be an AEC, they were produced untill 1922. Could also be surplus ex army, but looks new enough, perhaps fitted with custom bodywork, which was common enough. Handbrake to outside of driver and klaxon position match the AEC. https://www.flickr.com/photos/gyles/7279620444/in/photolist-c6gXxj-c8DUAJ-beuCU8-Tc9Bfx-26oK7nQ-T9kp1u-2iMWAo2-sT1A5s-2ajicpA-4wcBP7-UkUXgj-LMNY7B-2kNmf9L-5F9XUm-FH7huQ-CaVV22-2jMTMDx-qhZ57Z-2kMie2V-sdAwhE-2jGC78Z-oKsNUo-CySZZj-reMHJ8-2jyjrKc-2jcbDNP-asRGGA-8bmNfz-2gzLFbX-2hRAVho-263CoCi-5FSHdE-PrXin9-2kMmYzZ-GLRuQu-LC2jVS-2kzYZkY-6PXyVm-2jkkfmH-SqdDZ1-9EmCcE-2jsFU14-2jNbDGq-273vgZq-uNzNUi-2bQWzAZ-SLkk83-vKrY8X-PJYV1h-kdwXYc via Gyles Carpenter https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/40467235843/in/photolist-24DXamP-onJwqV-2kJpsb6-2ezCm3b-2kJt4ab-Gkm2KL-2kJpfH1-2kJpBaU-2kJGLUj-sT2xho-FRB3BC-2kHAxVW-taDgRg-uFnnXb-27GeYJW-beuCU8-Fib8Wa-9TK61D-Tc9Bfx-T9kp1u-2iMWAo2-sT9mTx-c6gXxj-8bmNfz-2gzLFbX-sT1A5s-2hRAVho-26oK7nQ-2ajicpA-4wcBP7-UkUXgj-LMNY7B-2kNmf9L-5F9XUm-FH7huQ-CaVV22-2jMTMDx-263CoCi-qhZ57Z-2kMie2V-sdAwhE-2jGC78Z-oKsNUo-CySZZj-reMHJ8-2jyjrKc-2jcbDNP-5FSHdE-asRGGA-PrXin9 via Alan Farrow
