This section of steel staircase can be found on the Cliff Top Trail in Bon Echo. It is identified as #4 in the Cliff Top Trail Guide. The year the staircase was constructed is a bit of a mystery. Dr. Weston Price purchased the Bon Echo property to construct an inn in 1899-1900. The Inn and property were later sold to Flora MacDonald Denison in 1910. Was this staircase constructed during Dr. Price's ownership or Flora MacDonald's?
Early photos of the bridge over the Narrows may help decide the staircase age. On our Flickr site we have photos of part of the staircase dating back to 1908 indicating Dr. Price was involved in the staircase construction. One would think that the Narrows bridge would have also been required to access the staircase. However, the staircase in this photo was not on the cliff face but a few hundred metres from the water's edge. The construction of the cliff face staircase and this one look similar.
