The National Library of Ireland is reopening TODAY and Miss Mary O'Leary is ready for business! This fine Clarke image taken just outside the front door of the Library is as good a way of reminding people that we are open once again after the lockdown. What is even more exciting is that this is just one of two photos we will be putting up today as this is intended to advertise the opening. Nonetheless any information on the image would be very much appreciated?
If any of you are thinking of following Miss O'Leary's example and visiting us, please see
this information you need.

I see that the two people are keeping their "social distance queue" .... or else she is being followed by plain clothes police aha !

Streetview There's something very no-nonsense about her attitude which I appreciate.

Hope you all have a smooth return to work. The picture is well captured. Good light and movement of the foot. A very well dressed lady with the floral detail on the lapels. Angled side banding on the jacket. Also circular bands from hem line up to knee height. A woman of means are you sure she needs to work at the Library?

She has the same taste in hats as Q.E.

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]] Joyce, It is well known she was an "only" child :-) Joyce would have been a good option in place of Mary! You should also see the comments about her on this photo [https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/16037291180] .....On a more serious note, we have to find a good name to refer to you by, I'm thinking female, more a Mrs Doyle than a Mrs Brown, not Agnes nor Sinead, Dora would be good but we already have a Dora. What do others think? We can't keep calling you NLI - have you a preference yourself? Are you allowed to have a preference yourself? Ciara might work...... ........I'll suggest Miss Mary O'Leary: OLeary Mary L 25 Female Daughter R Catholic Isle of Wight Secretary to Liberian National Library. ..........Mary it is then. Just out of interest, will Miss Mary O'Leary have her own facebook and Twitter accounts? Thanks for the quick reply Mary.... The genesis of Mary and the Marys you might say. Regards, Mary

Mary O'Leary National Library of Ireland (googled) brings me here to this lovely walking lady, obviously on the way to her workplace. Looking good, Mary! It's great to put a face to a name.

Seeing that gate reminds me of the day we all barricaded ourselves behind it in 1972/73 in The National College of Art and Design. We were all freedom fighters then, raging against the capitalist takeover of the Art College, led by the wonderful Brian Maguire. I think we modelled ourselves on the Communards, or those other students that just had a riot of a time in Paris. We were so focused on getting Alice Hanratty and Brian Cullen re-instated that we didn't mind the janitors banging buckets and ringing bells all night long. We were in it for the long haul, well, actually for three days anyway. We drank a lot, to keep the camaraderie going and peed in buckets together, which was more difficult for the women, but we all managed somehow. Those were the days, and we will never see their likes again, but that's another story.

or was it Charly Cullen? Never mind, the revolution was grand anyway. I must see what de Selby has to say about Freedom Fighters.

there might be some great pathos there too, all the same.
