Yesterday’s Instructors Cottage proved to be a bit of a puggle, and while I suspect that today’s might do likewise, I have been proved wrong in short order in the past. A country road with a cottage near Camross in Co. Laois by Mr. O’Dea probably means that there is a strip of permanent way not too far off, if that is any help.

Maybe. it doesn't look impossible from the cassini. This'd be the house you can see if you're right: goo.gl/maps/3RzHUzPWfbKkT4Kp7

https://www.flickr.com/photos/scorbet Yes - we're thinking of the same house, but I think O'Dea shows a bridge parapet and so I was thinking he was looking west rather than east... That said, the gable window doesn't quite line up - the base of the window in O'Dea's photo is level with the base of the roof, but it's the top of the the gable window in the house at Lacca Bridge that is level with the gutters... Maybe the house has been extended upwards from one storey to two since O'Dea was there? No sign of this on the Laois Co Co planning files though...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected] Could be. The distances don't match up as well, but my memory of the '70s is that distances on signposts tended to be pretty approximate. The scenery's a better fit in your one.

goo.gl/maps/GKh4Wg6oBQ9FRC8B8 5 miles = 8 km to Mounthrat 9 miles = 14.5 (≈15) km to Kinnity 5.5 miles = 8.85 (≈9) km to Camcross Only the 6 miles to Coolrain would be 9.6 km, not 13, but I think the 13 km are not the shortest direction, the shortest could be approx. 10 km according to my estimation. So the distances match pretty well IMO.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected] Sure. Close enough. I had a quick go of chasing streetview up that road as it leads into the hills but I didn't see this view. The trees are all a lot bigger now, though; it's hard to say. I could easily have passed it and not spotted it.
