Tom with Trout is the title on this Clonbrock photo with a man holding two enormous fish while standing on a lawn. I know at least one of our contributors is an avid fly fisher and expect that he is drooling with envy at the sight. These are trout and not the salmon that got away from yesterday's image!

I'd be thinking that them fish are Pike not Trout. Nice all the same but not the best eating in my opinion. Some of our Eastern European cousins consider them a delicacy.

Here is "Tom" thirty years earlier with a horse he caught - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000522276 ... so he might be in the censusesesssss

Two fine fish and were probably sought out to save the trout stocks?

There were three tenants named "Thomas" Thomas Noone, coachman, born 1872 www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002421482/ Thomas Davis, understeward, born 1886 www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002421472/ Thomas Hardiman, farm labourer, born 1857 www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002421492/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/beachcomberaustralia Of course, dating of photos is problematical, but which one, if any, is our man? T. Hardiman looks outside the age range, so Coachman or Under Steward? Edit. There must be more Estate workers than I saw in the census, I.e. Gatekeeper, Gardiners, Gamekeeper, etc

The fish are almost as long as the man is tall. Who on Earth would go fishing in a suit? Notice he also has a pocket watch chain. Not sure how common they were or who could afford them. A bit of a status symbol. Would any farm labourer wear a suit? I would rule out the farm labourer. My guess, the way the man is dressed he would be someone of some importance, thus my bet would be "Under Steward".
