An Eason image of Main Street, Ballinasloe in Co. Galway on a quiet day. Lots of pedestrians about but no traffic so one would suspect that it was a Sunday? Is that a great big hole on the right foreground or a bit of trimming?
Thanks for all the comments and Information, it seems that this photo was taken sometime after 1915 but before 1925. Interesting that this photo was selected in Flickr Explore today, see the Explore tab on the top line. This is the 111th time one of our photos has been selected - if you want to see more click on our Explore Album.

That's not a hole - some writing has been scraped off the image.

All the mounds all the way down the roadside. Marking out the parking spaces. haha

Streetview - goo.gl/maps/5KXcLUmktdk Almost the same except for the AIB Bank replacing the building at left. Now when did that happen ... ?

The NIAH says "c. 1925" for the bank, which does not really help - www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&...

Must add this to your collection- www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/mccullin-british-soldiers-in... www.tate.org.uk/art/images/work/AR/AR01192_10.jpg I'll bet they enjoyed using those bats.

I noted a terrace from 1890 at left.

Awesome, to say the least. So spatial - few people and no cars or traffic.

Mr French / Lawrence was there before those huge telephone poles (and a bigger black hole!) - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000319702

Duane is at #1 in 1911 census, not in the 1901 census at all, so we are after 1901.

Congratulation for your beautiful Album.

The outfits look like the early part of the 1900-1939 date range.

RI 3885 is after 1915 - so if the same day (and it looks consistent) this must be, too.
Niall McAuley
But before the 1925 bank.
abandoned railways
The buildings opposite the church show tall ladders, it looks like the whole town is being cleaned for some event.

This is Society Street, where the famous October fair is held. "The latter event includes sale-and-purchase, racing and show-jumping and these are concentrated on a 6-acre site on Society Street - the fair green."

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/abandonedrailsireland] notes a poster in the window of the pub with a sign saying Claffy (and perhaps the window says Concannon?) which says EXHIBITION. I am pretty sure the exhibition featured HORNED CATTLE.

I just noticed in Streetview that the Medical Hall of P.J. Duane was in April 2009 called... Duane Bridal Couture! (with one of the ubiquitous phone shops downstairs...) And the Bakery at left is now: Duane's Pharmacy and Opticians with a Chinese upstairs.

Another poster at extreme left reads: . GAA . GALWAY ROSCOMMON blah blah ATHLONE
Niall McAuley
Looks like there may be a Cumann Gaelach (variant spelling) upstairs on the left.

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/gnmcauley] Oops! The car's number is RI 3685 (megazoom at catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000557909 ) - I don't think it alters the 1915+ date. The car is in different positions - I wonder if it belonged to the photographer, like Mr O'Dea's !

Mum was born here, but not for another few years (1930), on Society Street, I think.

I believe the dark mark, bottom right, is where some text has been scrubbed out, some of the white writing is just visible.

I think it might say Cadbury's Chocolate on the front of the "Raftery's" shop. Cadbury's first chocolate bar seems to have been around 1849 so it of zero value really On the front of Claffy's it might say "Concannon's Whiskey Wine Spirit Provision Merchants"
