Postcard of the Table Rock Baths, Whitley Bay, c1937 (TWAM ref. DF.ATK/16/9/3).
The postcard is addressed to Mr H.H. Atkinson, 103 Canterbury Rd, Leyton, London E10 and postmarked 19 July 1937. The message has been transcribed below exactly as written:
"Dear Dad,
Hope you are keeping well. Weather not so sunny but it has not rained at all,
Edmund".
This set celebrates the many postcards in our collections. The people, places and events they show can give us an insight into the past, documenting the landscape, the fashions, the way we lived. Some postcards are unused but others tell us something about the people who bought them, through the messages they wrote. They can give us a fascinating glimpse into people’s lives.

Wow, bet there were a few injuries here! Health and safety would go crazy with this today. Looks like fun though. I never knew this existed and have walked the Whitley Bay coastline many times.
