This must have been in 1945. The Royal Navy's aircraft carrier H.M.S. Formidable visited Sydney Harbour three times.
1. In July 1945 after Kamikaze attack for repair at Cockatoo Island and Garden Island.
2. Arriving at Circular Quay on 23 August 1945 bringing home troops and most importantly repatriating recently liberated Prisoners of War.
3. Arriving at Circular Quay on 13 October 1945, again bringing home troops and Prisoners of War.
So this photograph was most likely taken shortly after the cessation of hostilities with Japan, between 23 August 1945 and late October 1945.

Historic Cadman's Cottage behind the terminal....pinpointed by the palm trees above it.... Thank heavens that some wise people protected that beautiful old cottage, so that we are still able to enjoy it in 2013.
