This unusual piece of photo journalism from the Clonbrock Collection. Queen Victoria's long reign had come to an end and her son, the Prince of Wales had come to the throne as King Edward VII. The Dillon family captured the proclamation outside a courthouse amidst great pomp and ceremony and at least one hat being held aloft!

"VOTE for MORRIS" seems to be this fellow - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Morris,_2nd_Baron_Killanin "... He was elected to the House of Commons for Galway Borough in 1900, a seat he held until the following year when he succeeded his father as second Baron Killanin and entered the House of Lords...."

Queen Victoria died at 6.30 pm on Tuesday 22 January 1901, so this photo is likely to be the next day, Wednesday 23 January (?). Extraordinary details of Victoria's death and funeral - www.historyextra.com/period/victorian/queen-victoria-deat...

Another historic moment, captured by the camera loving Dillons. Thanks. It appears to be The Town Hall Theatre In Galway in the background, rather than the courthouse which is opposite it. Must have been undergoing some refurbishment at the time.
