Today, the concept of a 'waterworks' seems a rather bland notion, but the opening ceremony for the waterworks at Driffield on the Yorkshire Wolds (pictured) heralded a step change for the infrastructure of this East Yorkshire town, and this is why it was celebrated with such fanfare back in 1880.
