Workers on Grovehill shipyard take a break to pose for the camera around 1901, shortly after shipbuilders Cook, Welton & Gemmell moved to Beverley from South Bridge Road in Hull. The company was founded in 1883 and at one time was the world’s largest manufacturer of trawlers until it was taken over by CD Holmes in 1963. In 1954 the shipyard employed 650 workers.
