Construction is underway of a footbridge across the railway line between Chantry Lane and Friars Lane back in 1911. Evidence of the fact that ‘health & safety’ had yet to be invented is given by the presence of a small child sat on the steps beyond the wooden barrier, just a couple of short metres from the workman as he knocks in a few nails!
