According to a New York Times article in 1914 Carl R. Gray resigned as president of the Great Northern Railroad to go to the Western Maryland Railroad. query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9A01E2DC1E39E633A... James J. Hill was the founder of the Great Northern.
