    The quality on these photos is simply amazing. Take this one for example. Apart from the slight changes in uniform style in the last 60 years, this could have been taken yesterday.

    I would bet that the uniform was not owned by the marine but the photo studio for men that wanted to send home photo of themselves in dress uniform. I can't clearly see the rank, but her probably had no need for a dress uniform.

    Looks like a gold oak leaf on his shoulder. But you're probably right, particularly if this guy was deployed somewhere. You wouldn't put that uniform in your duffel. (But maybe he did....)
