It has been brought to our attention that today is International Level Crossing Awareness Day! This is an important day to raise awareness of the dangers of level crossings as many people lose their lives each year on such crossings. These are terrible tragedies that could be avoided by proper respect and care when crossing railway lines.
THIS is the link to the ILCAD website should you want any further information.
THIS is another and more suitable shot of a level crossing but we did not have time to get it in format to load it!

The shot above is of Mt Brandon in the distance behind the level crossing!

Great idea NLI. All too often these accidents result in multiple deaths and the effects on the community are extensive. The train driver involved is also deeply affected by the collision though he is unhurt in most cases! This is a cutting from the Irish Independent of 15/2/2004 Retired parish priest of Shanaglish, Co Galway, Father Patrick Healy, 68, was killed when the car he was driving was struck by the Dublin-Galway train at the level crossing at Oranmore. None of the 300 passengers on the train was injured.

I love these Irish train shots, they all look like something out of a Thomas the Tank Engine book. So peaceful and happy

That's an Austin Cambridge at the head of the queue in your second photo (from Naas) but not the one previously featured. What is going on here?

https://www.flickr.com/photos/paddywhack56 https://www.flickr.com/photos/79549245[email protected] https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected] I'd be more worried if it was the previously seen Cambridge - it would imply that O'Dea had abandoned his car in the queue so that he could take a photo of the train. (I actually wouldn't put it past him...)
