This rather grim looking building is one of several in the Poole Collection.
Still difficult to understand what this photo is all about.
derangedlemur Identifies the location as Fennor North, Islandikane, Waterford. Mr Keane is in fact a solicitor from O'Connell Street, Waterford (Per Sharon Corbet). We do not know why he was commissioning photos of Nolan's public house, it was argued it may have been because of damage caused by the graffiti?
If you know better, please do let us know. We will expect a report from
ofarrl when he next visits the pub for a pint.
The Pub is still going and is now called Mother McHugh's

It's O'Connell street, Dungarvan. www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Waterford/Dunga... Edit: They seem to be gone by 1911, so maybe it's no surprise the place is in a state.

Somewhere west of here, I guess. The houses are all 3 storey to the east. maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,625708,593159,7,9

The lean-to and the gate could match this building in front of the brewery, though the porch is missing: maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,625518,593231,7,9
derangedlemur
Or maybe it's the brewery lodge itself.

And not Brewery Lodge either: www.waterfordmuseum.ie/exhibit/web/DisplayImage/K02forwar...

Curious. There's nothing else on the 25" with a porch.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/8468254@N02 My (so far unproved) theory is that the pub isn't actually in an O'Connell St., but that's the address of Mr. (H.D.) Keane, who is a solicitor. (Based on other photos in the NLI Archive.)

Is Keane involved because of damage to the building?
derangedlemur
[https://www.flickr.com/photos/129555378@N07] Ah. You don't think it's Keane the car owner and publican, but rather, this chap? www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Waterford/Water...
DannyM8
Is he involved because of malicious damage to the building - as a solicitor? - Photos for evidence?
sharon.corbet
https://www.flickr.com/photos/8468254@N02 Exactly, particularly as his office was (and still is) in O'Connell St. Waterford. But I don't have any real evidence - haven't managed to locate a Nolan's pub somewhere else yet that fits, for example :-)
derangedlemur
The nearest Nolan who's a publican appears to be on the Kells road in Kilkenny. Edit: Ah, wait, there's also one in Fennor North, Islandikane. Thwarted by casual sexism: I still had the search set to blokes after looking for a Mr Keane.
DannyM8
https://www.flickr.com/photos/129555378@N07 There are two hammers in the window to the left. It looks like the debris is from the flashing from the porch - there is evidence of more graffiti on the sill of the porch?

It does match the picture, but it's substantially redesigned now: maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,652988,601329,7,9 www.google.ie/maps/@52.161186,-7.225642,3a,75y,51.53h,87....

https://www.flickr.com/photos/8468254@N02/ Well done, certainly looks to be the same and a pub I'm familiar with. Mother McHugh's, as it is now, is a favourite spot for a pint or two whenever I get home.
