My Grandmothers Family ( Liddane ) were evicted from their farm in Rehy, Co. Clare during the closing days of the 19th Century !!! The family scattered to the UK; the USA, and New Zealand !!! The Youngest, Dennis Liddane was killed fighting for the American Army in France; Oct. 10, 1918, about a month before the end of the war. He is buried in France at the Muese Argonne American Cemetery. I don't even think he was an American Citizen. So sad. The family never recovered.

For anyone interested, though we first posted this image a few years back, the events it captures were covered in a 2015 episode of Tríd an Lionsa (available, as of Nov 2015, on the TG4 web-player).

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland] Any chance please of a hi-res version of this. I think that is "Mr & Mrs Tourist" aka Major and Mrs O'Shaughnessy on the right wearing the same hat, which implies the date is Tuesday 31/7/1888. This is the middle view between [https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/23945800642/] and [https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/22812392674/]

The Clare Library has the people in this "Council" photo identified as - " (L to R): McDonell (Reporter for the "Daily News"), Colonel Turner, Francis Blake Lopdell (Inspector of the R.I.C.), Cecil Roche (Resident Magistrate), Todd Thoreton (of the Royal Berkshires), Pirie (of the 3rd Hussars), Lynch (of the Royal Berkshires), a priest and two tourists [Major and Mrs O'Shaughnessy] at extreme right. The Vandeleur estate agent, Hallam Studdert, stands in the middle distance, wearing a bowler and white jacket. " The Clare Library also gives the location as "one of Thomas Birmingham's sub-tenants, Moyasta", which does not tally with the left view, described as John Connell. Eeek! The location of all three photos is this "C"- shaped yard - maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V2,494213,658697,11,9 - identified by [https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/] on the right hand photo.
