This panoramic view of men playing baseball was part of a collage of photographs in the January 1919 Norwester magazine highlighting various outdoor sporting events from the previous year. A written review of the 1918 summer baseball season describes it as a success. The baseball field had been improved, and the first series of games between Upper Arlington and Grandview had been concluded. In a humorous wrap-up piece the author describes the various players: Baldy Miller, Has-Been Kern, Homerun Oh Zimmerman, Shorty Bornhauser and Goat Thomas, just to name a few. A description of King Thompson, one of Upper Arlington's founders, noted, "Two-Bits Thompson, our conscientious umpire, got through the season with only a few scratches and bumps. His greatest difficulty seemed to be telling a fowl [sic] from a fly. If all the fines that King imposed were collected, he might buy another 1,000 acres for Upper Arlington."
