This house at 1684 Cambridge Boulevard was the residence of C. W. (Charles Wing) Brown and his wife Katharine (Gage) Brown who were married in March 1917. They moved into their home on Cambridge Boulevard in the summer of 1918. C. W. graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in 1912. He worked with the steel department of the Columbus Mill and Mine Supply Company. He was reputed to be a fine tennis player who played with "a life-sized Lawford in either hand." The Lawford referred to was likely a tennis racquet named after the winner of the men' s singles tennis championship at Wimbledon in 1887, Herbert Lawford. Brown also enjoyed playing baseball and duckpin bowling and was a member of the Columbus Athletic Club.
