Robert O'Brien lived at 1825 Coventry Road and was one of the early residents of Upper Arlington. Mr. O'Brien was appointed the first president of the Upper Arlington Civic Association in 1933 and held this office for two years. He was also one of eight residents appointed to the Village of Upper Arlington's first Park Board, established in 1934, and he served as an Upper Arlington Councilman from 1935-1946. Mr. O'Brien was born in Columbus, Ohio and married Josephine Groff of Wooster, Ohio. Their daughter, Marion Roberta O'Brien was the first baby born in Upper Arlington. Mr. O'Brien also worked in the retail grocery business, as a deputy in the County Treasurer's Office, and as membership manager and secretary of the Manufacturers and Jobbers Association. He was also involved in rehabilitation work on the west side of Columbus after the 1913 flood.
