Grace May Miller, born May 25, 1882, was the daughter of Esther Everett and James Miller. A portion of her family's farm was sold in 1913 to King and Ben Thompson for the development of Upper Arlington. The first six children born to the Miller family were girls and were later known collectively as "The Aunties." The Aunties were educated at Miss Phelp's School in Columbus, traveling to and from the school by buggy and horseback. They worked for the Red Cross during World War I and ardently campaigned for women's suffrage. They drove their touring car, decorated in black and white in the July 4, 1921 parade and won first prize. Grace married (John) Jack Brittain of England and lived there for a time before returning to a cottage near her family's large and prosperous farm. Grace was reputed to be a fine horsewoman as this picture suggests. The photograph was taken on Stanford Road with the home of her brother, Henry Miller, who resided at 1860 Cambridge Boulevard, in the background.
