Max McGaughey was the son of J. B. and Hannah McGaughey. According to the Norwester magazine in 1918, Mr. McGaughey was the manager of the Peters-Herron Dash Company, was active in many civic activities, and lived with his parents at 1953 Concord Road. As a sports enthusiast, he played tennis, baseball, and pitched horseshoes.
