Riddarholmskyrkan church at Riddarholmen ("Islet of Knights"). The church, inaugurated ca 1300, was originally built as a monastery church for the Grey Friars - a Franciscan orden. It became in 1634 a royal burial church.

Riddarholmskyrkan på Riddarholmen. Kyrkan, invigd ca 1300, byggdes ursprungligen som klosterkyrka för Gråbrödraklostret inom Franciskanerorden. 1634 blev kyrkan kunglig begravningskyrka.

    Nice photo, but can it really be dated to as late as 1894? As far as I can see, the railway in front of the church has not been built yet. This places the picture about 30 or 40 years earlier.

    [https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]] I got the date from the same image published by Stockholm City Museum in the database "Stockholmskällan": www.stockholmskallan.se/Soksida/Post/?nid=5806 This image from 1896 shows the rails behind the row of trees: www.stockholmskallan.se/Soksida/Post/?nid=5782 Another image ( a drawing) shows the same view in 1865: www.stockholmskallan.se/Soksida/Post/?nid=20451 Hopefully then, the date 1894 should be correct. Thanks anyway for sharing your thoughts, allowing us to find and show other interesting images from Riddarholmen! /Anna B.
